🏋🏻Challenge of the week: Find three remote job postings that you are actually interested in. Before you hit “Apply,” check for these three things:
The Pay Range: Is it listed? If not, message the recruiter on LinkedIn and ask for the budget before you spend an hour on the application.
The Human Factor: Find one person currently in that role or department on LinkedIn and send a 2-sentence “informational” note (i.e. “Hi, I wanted to let you know I applied for this role, given my experience in X and the role or company’s mission in X, I believe I am a strong candidate.”)
💡 This is a massive win for Ontarians. As of this year, Ontario companies with 25+ staff legally cannot ghost you after an interview—they have 45 days to give you a “Yes” or “No.” They also have to be honest about whether a robot or a human is screening your resume and they must post a real salary range. No more “guessing” if a role is worth your time or waiting 3 months for an email that never comes.
🔎 TLDR: Ontario employers can no longer ghost candidates and must provide salary transparency and whether AI was used in screening.
💡 LinkedIn is cluttered and job boards are where resumes go to die. That’s why people are literally jumping on Bumble Bizz (and even Hinge) to find hiring managers. It sounds wild, but when you’re being ignored by every ATS bot in North America, a direct human connection on a “non-work” app is the ultimate side door. If you can’t get a reply to your LinkedIn InMail, find where the decision-makers are actually hanging out—just keep it professional and lead with curiosity, not a pitch.
🔎 TLDR: Job-seekers are turning to dating apps to network and land jobs.
💡 Stop feeling guilty about wanting to leave a job after 18 months (or less). In the North American market, staying at one company for too long is the fastest way to shrink your lifetime earnings by 50%. “Job hopping” isn’t a red flag anymore; it’s a strategic wealth-building move. If your current role isn’t teaching you a new, high-value skill or giving you a bump that beats inflation, you aren’t “settling”—you’re stagnating.
🔎 TLDR: Your career is a business, not a family. If the growth or the money isn’t there, it’s time to move on to someone who will actually pay your worth.
