📰I got a work-from-home job text. Here are the red flags that told me it was a scam
TLDR: Okay, this one’s a must-read if you’ve been getting weird texts lately. Writer Brittany Anas kept getting unsolicited texts promising “$600 a day, remote, no experience needed” — and she breaks down exactly why they were fake.
Nearly 50,000 people have reported employment scams to the Better Business Bureau over the last three years, with reports doubling in 2025 alone, so this isn’t rare.
The tells: zero company name, zero job description, a weirdly specific requirement like “must be 22,” and a request to just text back “YES” to get the ball rolling. The FTC’s rule is the same one I preach to you constantly — you should never have to pay money, deposit a check, or “unlock” your own earnings to get paid for a job. If a remote gig shows up out of nowhere in your texts, screenshot it, delete it, and keep your job search to channels you can actually verify.
