Nearly 50,000 people have reported employment scams to the Better Business Bureau over the last three years, with reports doubling in 2025 alone, so this isn’t rare.
The tells: zero company name, zero job description, a weirdly specific requirement like “must be 22,” and a request to just text back “YES” to get the ball rolling.
The FTC’s rule is the same one I preach to you constantly — you should never have to pay money, deposit a check, or “unlock” your own earnings to get paid for a job. If a remote gig shows up out of nowhere in your texts, screenshot it, delete it, and keep your job search to channels you can actually verify.
